With President Biden’s April 25 announcement that he is indeed running for a second term, the nation’s collective yawn reflects a new (or newly virulent) malady in our body politic.  Only a small minority of Americans, and indeed a minority of Democrats want this dedicated public servant to seek to lead us into his late 80s.  Yet most of us will have no choice but to support him, simply because he is perceived to be the only candidate with a better-than-even chance of defeating someone nearly as old and proven to be far less qualified for the office.  What does this state of affairs tell us about the health of our democracy?
